What are Polyester Carpets?

Polyester Carpets feel very soft and look luxurious, whilst also being incredibly environmentally friendly, with many made from plastic bottles. Polyester is also known as PET (polyethylene terephthalate). Polyester or PET carpets are strong (they don’t lose shape) so are suitable for high-traffic areas, very stain-resistant and affordable. However, Polyester carpets are more prone to staining and may wear back after a couple years.

As most quality polyester carpets are made from closed-cell fibres, they do not have any open dye sites for stains to stick to. This makes polyester carpets highly stain resistant.

Polyester carpets are softer, more stain resistant and more durable than polypropylene. However, they do come at a higher price point and are approximately 20% more expensive than a comparable polypropylene carpet. However, polyester carpets are still a budget option and is far more affordable than a nylon or a wool carpet.

Polyester is a great budget option, but it’s not the most resilient or durable. A nylon or wool carpet would be far more traffic-resistant and durable.

Polyester carpets are a great way to transform your home on a budget, but we at FloorVenue believe in transparency and it is our duty to inform you that you may experience some “flattening” of the carpet over time.

We recommend choosing a higher-density and reputable polyester carpet for maximum durability.
